“The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.” -Ralph Waldo Emerson
Through these 4 months of organizing Moulmein Active Day (MAD), we had an incredible experience working with a group of enthusiastic people from the Pek Kio Youth Executive Committee (YEC) in Pek Kio CC, who took their precious time off their busy schedules to serve the community wholeheartedly. MAD is an annual event held in Novena, Velocity to promote healthy lifestyle for Moulmein residents and also the public. Specifically for this year, a blood donation drive was held in conjunction with a street netball competition. Like us, a number of the YEC members are students studying in Junior Colleges and Secondary Schools, while there are a few who are working grown adults. We attended meetings with Pek Kio YEC and the staff of PLAYERS event, and participated actively in discussions to plan out the event from scratch, from the programme outline, logistics, budgeting, to aesthetics display. As we are still amateurs in organizing public events, the YEC and PLAYERS guided us along really well and made sure that we picked up as much as we can in the planning process.
