“The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to  have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.” -Ralph Waldo Emerson

Through these 4 months of organizing Moulmein Active Day (MAD), we had an incredible experience working with a group of enthusiastic people from the Pek Kio Youth Executive Committee (YEC) in Pek Kio CC, who took their precious time off their busy schedules to serve the community wholeheartedly. MAD is an annual event held in Novena, Velocity to promote healthy lifestyle for  Moulmein residents and also the public. Specifically for this year, a blood donation drive was held in conjunction with a street netball competition. Like us, a number of the YEC members are students studying in Junior Colleges and Secondary Schools, while there are a few who are working grown adults. We attended meetings with Pek Kio YEC and the staff of PLAYERS event, and participated actively in discussions to plan out the event from scratch, from the programme outline, logistics, budgeting, to aesthetics display. As we are still amateurs in organizing public events, the YEC and PLAYERS guided us along really well and made sure that we picked up as much as we can in the planning process.

Moulmein Active Day at Velocity @ Novena Square

Pek Kio’s Youth Executive Committee (YEC) organised this year’s Moulmein Active Day on 13th April 2013 at Velocity @ Novena Square, where we held a street netball competition in conjunction with our annual blood donation drive.

The event was a success as it drew an estimated crowd of about 800 people throughout the entire event.

The street netball competition was jointly organised with PLAYER events, a sports events planning management which was a tremendous success as we saw 120 players from 17 different teams who battled it out in the 2 main categories – Under 19 Girls and Mixed Open respectively. National Junior College students joined us in the event planning and contributed tremendously to our publicity, manpower and logistics. The enthusiasm and sporting spirit of players made the event a must watch, as even members of the public joined in amongst the spectators to catch a glimpse of the talented competitors despite the sweltering heat that afternoon. The netball competition finally came to an end with 8 teams who walked away cash prices and 2 teams, namely “XYZ” and “Mixed Ponies” who emerged as the champions in their respective categories.

E-mail Print

Enough of tuition and homework for the children , it was the school holidays !

On 10/3/13, DUNEARN NC Eco - warriors from 4-years old to 50 years old , put down their homework and ipads and kayaked their way through the open sea and mangroves at pulau ubin .

It was tough. We were sweating buckets because the sun was blazing hot ! We saw monitor lizards, mud-skippers and a sea-eagle in the mangroves. It was a real eye-opener, so different from city-life in Singapore .

The highlight of the trip was this photo taken of us standing on our kayaks !
